 Sunrise: July 1, 1952 – Sunset: May 2, 2025 With heartfelt sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved, John Andre Turner, affectionately known as Gizmo, who departed this life peacefully on Friday, May 2, 2025, at 4:00 AM, at the age of 72. John’s Life Story Born on July 1, 1952, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, John Andre Turner was the cherished son of the late Eva Beatrice Davis and John Will Ferrell. Raised in a large and beautifully blended family, Andre was one of seven children. He is preceded in death by two brothers, Jerome Turner and Anthony “Sticks” Blackman. Andre leaves behind a loving family who will continue to honor his memory, including his siblings: Thelma Bryant, Quentin “Newt” Blackman, Annette “Mooda” Blackman, and Gail Blackman. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, an aunt, and many lifelong friends whose lives he touched deeply. Andre's proudest role was that of a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. To know Giz was to know that his children were the center of his world. He spoke of them often and with immense pride, never missing a chance to share their accomplishments and milestones with those around. His three children lovingly remember him: Lorna Andrea “Stuff” Haley-Nash, Angela “Peanut” Harris, and Donté Rollins. His legacy continues through the lives of his revered four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Each of them carries forward part of his resilient spirit and loving nature.
 Andre, though small in stature, was mighty in heart and spirit. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during a brief but courageous tour in Vietnam and was honorably discharged in 1974. He later worked full-time as an ER Admissions Clerk at Giuffre Medical Center (St. Luke's). A man of many passions, Andre also managed a local music band, Soultruders, making a notable contribution to Philadelphia's creative scene. John Andre Turner was a proud man of faith, principle, and deep familial love. He was an elated son of Philadelphia. And an ardent supporter of all Philly sports teams: Eagles, Phillies, 76ers, and Flyers. He delighted in passing his enthusiasm for sports to his grandchildren, with whom he enjoyed many cherished outings to the Phillies games. Andre’s life was marked by growth, redemption, and enduring strength. From his roots in the rough yet loving streets of Philadelphia to building a fulfilling life in Coatesville, he exemplified the power of transformation through faith and resilience. In 2022, Andre returned to Philadelphia to be near his loved ones as his health began to decline. Although his physical presence is no longer with us, Andre's spirit, laughter, and unwavering love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Sorrowfully submitted the family.
