Frederick Hector, Sr. led a life marked by dedication to family, career, and community. Born in Philadelphia in 1936, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps before building a successful career and nurturing close bonds with loved ones.
In 1959, Frederick Hector, Sr. married the love of his life, Charlotte Edna Parks, who preceded him in death on July 2, 2024. For 65 years, they lived happily together in the 3800 Block of 16th Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Frederick attended grade school and high school in Philadelphia. After being honorably discharged, he worked at the Philadelphia Electric Company (PECO), starting as a maintenance helper and advancing to Steam Fitter and Sub-Foreman. Highly respected and known as "The Sage," he inspired colleagues of all backgrounds. Frederick retired from PECO at age 55 and continued working as an affordable video photographer for families and couples. Frederick had several hobbies. He was interested in movies, cars, jewelry, computers, and technology. He also owned a diverse collection of music across multiple genres.
Frederick loved his wife Charlotte, and together with their children, they traveled extensively. They enjoyed cruises to the Caribbean, a family road trip to Toronto and Niagara Falls, annual beach trips, and even organized a family trip to Walt Disney World. He cherished his parents and ensured all their travel expenses were covered. Frederick and Charlotte regularly hosted family events, including Thanksgiving dinners, barbecues, and block parties.
As the second eldest son, Frederick was protective of his three sisters—Gertrude, Ardellia, and Rose—and they spent weekends together playing cards, especially Pinochle and Tonk, and enjoying music and laughter. They organized annual reunions at their parents' home in Egg Harbor Township to ensure their families stayed connected. Frederick also treated the family to Mother's Day brunches and enjoyed dining out at places like Outback Steakhouse, Olive Garden, and Red Lobster.
From 1982 until his death, Frederick was an active member of the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Masons of Philadelphia, Herbert E. Millen Lodge #151, and Pyramid Temple #1. He mentored fellow members and managed the monthly newsletter, personally preparing and mailing over one hundred copies each month. Together with Charlotte, he regularly attended lodge social events, fundraisers, luncheons, banquets, and balls.
Frederick, also known as Fred, Freddie, Pop Pop, G-Pop, and Uncle Freddie, is survived by a devoted family. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Charlotte Hector; parents, Gladys and William Hector, Sr., four siblings; William Hector, Jr., Gertrude Hunter, Ardellia Jones, and Rose Hector. He leaves to cherish his memory; two sons, Frederick Hector, Jr. and Jonathan Hector; one daughter, Evelyn Davis (Hector); a sister-in-law, Linda Parks; four granddaughters, Allison Davis, Charlotte Hooks, Rene' Hector, and Julie Hector; and one great-grandson, Landon Hooks, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. His enduring commitment and love are reflected in the legacy he leaves behind.
