Obituary of Marlene Porter

Marlene affectionately known as “Mom or Marty Mar” was born on July 11, 1950 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late Walter Dickerson and Lessie Vanbrunt. She peacefully passed away on December 29, 2019 with her daughter Fe by her side. Marlene received her education from the Philadelphia School System. After raising her children, Marlene was hired to work full time as a General Cleaner at the School District of Philadelphia from 1999-2014. In 2014, Marlene retired to become a full-time care giver to her mother. Marlene was a lover of life. She loved to be in the company of friends and have a good ole time. She enjoyed good music, good food and most of all she loved to hang out with her daughter. If you see one you see the other. She was also known for her warm smile that would light up any room. Marlene danced to her own beat no matter what anyone else thought. She lived life on her terms even when it came down to her taking her last breath. Marlene has gained her wings; she is moving on to the next chapter. No more pain worry free and Eternal life with her mother and her boys along the way. Now she is Free to Rest in Peace……Rest on “Marty Mar Rest On!!!!” Marlene was preceded in death by her mother Lessie VanBrunt, her son Louis Porter, her sister Cheryl Banks, and two Special Grandsons, Jamil “Mukmuk” White and Shereef Tillman. Marlene leaves to celebrate this life: her daughter; Yvonne Porter, son; Walter Porter, eight grandchildren; Louis Porter III, Maleek Porter, Fatira Porter, Amira Porter, Amin Porter, Ma’kah Porter, Yaqeen Porter and Rahim Porter; devoted and long-time partner Utah Lyles and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
