Obituary of Florence Law-Martin

Quietly and peacefully on, November 15th, 2013, Almighty God called our beloved sister Florence Law-Martin home. Her loving god daughter, which she regarded as her daughter Candace “Can” and devoted friend (Bernice) tended to her care until she was called to glory. Florence Law- Martin was born on May 29, 1929 in Donora, PA to the late Percy Law Sr. and Olanso Ross Law. She was proceeded in death by six brothers; Edgar Law, Donald Law Sr., Percy Law Jr., Lawrence Law, Grant Gray, and Hershal Gray; and five sisters, Beatrice Law Nelson, Elma Law Frost, LyVonne Law Parker, Grace Law Moten, and Luella Ross Reed. Florence was most proud of her siblings and their family business as morticians. Florence received her formal education in the Donora, PA school system. Florence was baptized at an early age at First Baptist Church where she accepted Christ as her savior and later joined Mt. Pisgah AME Church a few years after relocating to Philadelphia, PA. Florence was employed with Washington County Pathonatary Office as a County Clerk of Deeds and Records. She also held office as Office Manager with the Housing Authority for the City of Clairton and McKeesport of which she retired and moved to Philadelphia, PA to become a homemaker and raise her grandchildren. Florence was a member of the Negro Political Club, American Legion of Pennsylvania, and The Eastern Star. Florence married the love of her life Foster E. Martin and from this union they had one son Ricardo Ellsworth Martin I. Foster preceded Florence in death November 28, 1998. Florence was a jazzy and sharp woman. She was loving and giving. Florence loved to ride motorcycles and was a wiz at crossword puzzles. She had exquisite taste in jewelry and clothing and enjoyed the finer things in life. Florence loved to collect butterflies, elephants, crystal, and Lenox collectables. Her favorite time of the year was Christmas and she loved spending holidays with her family. She loved children and loved spoiling children. She was very family oriented.
