Obituary of William S. Moore

William Samuel Moore was born in Greene County, North Carolina on June 10, 1928 to the late Herman Moore and the late Anna Moore. He was called from labor to reward on January 21, 2023. He was the last survivor of 9 sisters and 4 brothers. William was educated in the North Carolina School system. After completing his formal education, he migrated to Philadelphia where he worked as a Custodian for the Marple Newton School District, then moved on to attain employment at Septa where he retired in 1997. William was a dedicated and faithful servant of the Lord. He joined Rehoboth Temple Church of God In Christ on March 5, 1978 and was baptized on April 16, 1978 under the leadership of Bishop George A Williams, Prelate of the PA Keystone Jurisdiction. After faithful service in the church, he was Ordained a Deacon. William was a loyal Sunday School teacher for the men of Rehoboth and served on the PA Keystone Jurisdiction Sunday School department. He enjoyed Men’s Day, listening to gospel music and singing on the Rehoboth Temple Male Chorus. William’s construction gifts and talents were demonstrated where repairs were needed in the church. Every time the church doors opened, you would always find “Deacon Moore” sitting in his favorite seat on the first pew right side. Deacon Moore loved praying and made prayer meetings and Bible Studies. At times you would catch him dipping and he would say “I wasn’t sleep, I was just resting my eyes.” William served in the church until his health would no longer allow him to. William was loved and respected by everyone who knew him. To some, he was known as the “Walking Bible” because he knew the Bible inside and out and had no problem challenging you on a scripture. “Deacon Moore”, as most people knew him, was kind, compassionate and selfless. He will truly be missed! William loved spending time with his family as well as his soul mate, Odessa Moore (who preceded him in death) and eating at the Oak Lane Diner on Sundays. He also enjoyed cleaning the whole neighborhood. He couldn’t just clean the outside of his own house, he had to clean yours and everyone else's too; especially when he thought you wasn't doing too good of a job. He was known to the neighbors as “Black Moses” because every time you saw him, he had his self- created homemade stick. He loved walking, talking with people, and was environmentally conscious -- collecting cans. People would say “Mr. Moore, can I see your stick?” He would say “sure;” but, he would watch you like a “hawk.” William was preceded in death by one child -- Vergie Jean Moore. He leaves two children to cherish, honor and preserve his memory -- Michael (Jeryl) Moore and Charlotte Miller-Lacy along with his grandchildren -- Stacy, LaTesha, Teronda, Karima, Danielle, Joe and Louis, his great grandchildren -- Kristen, Shaina, Ayesha, Michael, Shay, Brooke, Mora, Blair and Blake, his great-great grands, Symirah, Aiden, Nikaiya, Noel, Zendaya, Zara, and Zion. His memory lives on with his goddaughter Ruth Williams and his godson Deacon Terry Miller, as well as a host of family and friends. Sorrowfully Submitted The Family
