Obituary of Rosalind G. Walker

Rosalind Gloria Walker better known as “Bootsie” was born in Philadelphia, PA January 24, 1937 to the late Henry and Helen Walker and was the third eldest daughter of five sisters and two brothers. Bootsie attended the Philadelphia Public School System and from there found her way as a domestic technician for several years. Miraculously the doors of opportunity opened and she was asked to worked at St. Vincent’s consignments where she retired after working several years. To know Bootsie she was a no tolerance person, however kind, warm hearted and if in need she would literally give you her last and that’s a fact! For with what little she had, Bootsie has feed the hungry, clothed the naked and gave shelter to the homeless; and many of us were recipients of her generosity. Bootsie loved and cherished her children and always showed them by her lip smacking, finger licking soul food dinners. It was not a holiday that went by where she would prepare a mega feast for her children to celebrate, with the neighbors, extended family and drive by friends who were always welcome. Known by many and loved by all “Mother” of the neighborhood that’s what she was called. Later in years Bootsie heard the voice of the Lord and she followed her children to the North Philadelphia Seventh-day Adventist Church; where she immediately went to work assisting her daughter and grand-daughter in the Hospitality Dept. doing what she did best and that was cooking. Preparing for the Church her mouth watering candy yams and homemade barbecue sauce which was enough to make you.. ….well you can fill in the blanks. It wasn’t until short a month ago and gravely ill when Bootsie publicly made her calling and election sure by totally committing and accepting the Lord Jesus Christ through baptism; it was a testimony and a witness of faith for all who were present! A strong mother, a doer of goodwill and a pillar of the neighborhood we have no doubt when our Lord and Savior on that great and glorious day of His appearing will say to our Bootsie “Rise Well Done My Good and Faithful Servant” now come and see what I have prepared for you, that where I am you will be also it is the place where the righteous call home!
