Marie was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend. She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories through her three children: William Eric Payne, DeJaris Payne, and Thea Payne. She is also survived by her adoring grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends who will forever carry her in their hearts. Preceding her in death are her siblings, Abraham Coakley, William Gold Jr., Ellen Jones, Charles Jerome Smalls, Clary Smalls, and Annabell Shaw, along with their spouses. Despite their absence, their bond remains in the family’s history and hearts. Marie dedicated her life to caring for others, retiring over a decade ago after a distinguished career as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Known for her nurturing spirit, she provided compassionate care to the elderly, often working tirelessly through double shifts and rarely taking a sick day. Even after retirement, her heart remained with those she once cared for as she continued visiting residents at the nursing home, offering companionship and joy. She found immense fulfillment in feeding others, embodying the belief that no one should leave her home hungry.
